About trans aware
Trans Aware specialises in delivering personalised and accessible training designed to empower professionals who work with young people and vulnerable adults - such as educators, social workers, foster carers, and more - to create safe and supportive environments for transgender and gender-diverse people.
Moving through the world as a transgender man has shown me that one of the biggest challenges people face when working with trans and gender-diverse people is the fear of getting it wrong. Fear of all the terminology, fear of slipping up, fear of not understanding. A common thread underpinning this fear is that many people have never actually met or had the chance to talk to a transgender person. Through sharing my own story as a transgender man, I invite you not just to listen to my experience but to talk to me: ask me questions, share your thoughts, and participate in dynamic and reflective discussions to overcome some of your worries and grow your understanding. I am committed to making a space free of judgement, not shaming anyone for not knowing, but rather finding meaningful learning opportunities within those moments of uncertainty.

Hi, my name is Robin, and I’m the founder and director of Trans Aware.
“Trans Aware” grew out of my own journey navigating the world as a young trans person. As I tried to find my place in the world — at home, at school, and in everyday social spaces — I often met people who wanted to help but didn’t always know how. The “fear of getting it wrong” from the adults around me left behind a child who felt unseen and unsupported. What I needed was someone who had the drive and compassion to learn how to support me and someone who was prepared to guide that person on how to do that. My experience shaped my determination to be that person. To make things better for the next generation, to inspire real change, and to contribute to building a world where young trans people feel seen, valued, and supported by the adults around them.
Alongside running Trans Aware, I work with children and young people as a Support Worker in schools and youth groups across Sheffield, giving me day-to-day insight into the realities trans and gender-diverse youth face today.
I hold a BA and MA in Sociological Studies with a specialism in Gender Studies. My research focuses on transgender youth, wellbeing, and support networks.
